Promotional film aimed at attracting new undergraduates from the UK and overseas to the University of East Anglia.

Views of the University of East Anglia campus: the soundtrack features student comments over shots of students and lectures, the Sainsbury Centre, the terraces and the student accommodation.

Scenes from student life feature a discussion group, musicians practising in the Music Centre, accountancy students at computers, language classes, the chemistry department and the library. There is a cricket match and interviews conducted by the staff of Nexus, the student television. The students also run Phoenix, the campus newspaper.

Post-punk band "The Higsons", fronted by Charlie "Switch" Higson, perform their chart-topping hit "I Don't Want To Live With Monkeys" at the Student Union.

There are scenes around the centre of Norwich. Graduation day and a list of available courses close the film.

Background Information:

The film features a now-famous alumnus of the university - actor, comedian, TV producer and author, Charlie Higson. He is perhaps best known for writing and performing comedy sketches for television’s “The Fast Show”. In the film Higson performs as front man with his post-punk band “The Higsons” [at around 15:00].

The band's single “I Don’t Want To Live With Monkeys” reached no. 5 in the UK Indie Chart following its release in July 1981.

‘The Higsons’ band members were, Charlie “Switch” Higson (vocals); Terry Edwards (guitar / saxophone / trumpet); Stuart McGeachin (guitar); Simon Charterton (drums); Colin Williams (bass); and, David Cummings (guitar). David Cummings does not appear in the performance in this film which was commissioned by UEA for the admissions film, and was recorded in 'The Barn' at the University Village.

Charlie Higson’s brother, Andrew Higson, taught in the University's School of Film and Television Studies for 22 years (1986-2008).
