Brian Connell presents a 'Focus On' profile Northampton, a large industrial town famed for its shoemaking industry and a rural charm. Tracing a day in the life of the town, from the empty quiet streets of early morning to the busy hustle of mid-morning traffic.

Historically contained within municipal walls and by the River Nene, Northampton's close proximity to rich farmland ensures strong links with agriculture, including a large livestock market. As well as providing milk and meat, the surrounding land also provided the leather which would turn the town into one of the great shoe manufacturing centres of the world.

As well as highlighting the shoe manufacturing industry, Anglia Television cameras visit the livestock market, the traditional market square in the town centre, education establishments for secondary and further education, the Royal Theatre (home of the Northampton Repertory Theatre Company) and St Matthew's Church, which features artworks by Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland.
